King Charles strays from royal protocol and says he's been "reduced to tears" by kindness

King Charles has been spotted back at work and meeting with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak for the first time since the news of his cancer diagnosis was made public. He also stepped away from the typical royal protocol of withholding emotion to express his gratitude to the general public for sending well wishes and said the kindness shown has “reduced me to tears”.

Whilst undergoing treatment the King has stepped back from his public facing duties, but was back to work today in some capacity by meeting with the PM. He has also continued with administrative duties behind the scenes, too.

When Sunak complimented the royal and said he’s looking well, Charles joked in response by saying, “It’s all done with mirrors.” He also spoke of his admiration for the work that cancer charities do.

The rest of the PM and the King’s meeting took place in private behind closed doors as usual.

Charles has not shared the type of cancer with which he has been diagnosed, but a Palace statement said it was discovered incidentally and is unrelated to his recent enlarged prostate procedure.

The King’s youngest son, Prince Harry, also shared an update on his father’s health recently and indicated that his illness could perhaps prove to have a silver lining by ‘uniting’ the royals.

During an interview with ABC’s Good Morning America, Harry said that as soon as he heard the news of Charles’ cancer he “jumped on a plane”, making a visit to see his father (but not his brother, Prince William) in less than 24 hours.

“Look, I love my family and the fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I’m grateful for that,” the Duke commented.

When asked about his ‘outlook’ on the King’s health, Harry then added: “That stays between me and him.”
